19 New Beauty Products Cosmopolitan Editors Loved in October

AKA, all the best makeup, hair, skincare, and fragrance you can get right now.

By

Every single month, dozens of new skin, hair, makeup, and nail products are sent to the Cosmopolitan offices, and as the team's beauty director, it's my duty to assess them all honestly. The same goes for my fellow editors. That’s why there’s no one more qualified to give beauty advice and recs than us. We see it all, test it all, and review it all, so if we’re calling something a favorite, then you know it’s genuinely good, not just hype.

On our list of favorites this month? Two hair wands (they're both so good, we couldn't pick just one), body creams and lotions that cocoon skin in a layer of long-lasting hydration (a must as we head into colder months), makeup that's easy to use no matter your skill level, and a pumpkin spice lip balm, because it's fall of course.

Keep scrolling for all the details on our editors' favorite beauty products for October—and happy shopping!

This Stick-Free, Mess-Free Setting Spray

Laura Mercier Ultra-Blur 24HR Hydrating Setting Spray

Ultra-Blur 24HR Hydrating Setting Spray

"Most setting sprays feel like I'm spritzing wet, sticky hairspray all over my face, so I typically steer clear. But Laura Mercier's new formula is the total opposite. It's lightweight and hydrating—like a really good face mist—and comes out of the can easily in a super-fine, continuous spray that's mess-free. When I use this as the last step of my morning routine (at 7:30 am, mind you), my makeup still looks totally fine when I get home at 6 pm." —LAUREN BALSAMO, BEAUTY DIRECTOR

"I’ve always loved the O.G. clear version of this lip oil. The packaging is adorable, it smells good, and it’s lightweight yet hydrating on my lips. But now I’m actually obsessed with the tinted options. The medium and deep brown are both ideal when paired with a lip liner for an everyday look. And it’s only a bonus that they feel so good." —BETH GILLETTE, BEAUTY EDITOR

"There is nothing I love more than showing up on a first date and being told I smell good. It’s intoxicating, really. Because obviously I put a whole lot of effort into choosing from my zillion perfumes how I want to smell to my crush. Duh. And the perfume that’s been doing that most recently is Noyz Only Human, a vanilla-based skin scent that's creamy and soft. There are hints of cedarwood and pink pepper to round out the milky vibes, but most of all, I get a soothing sweetness." —BG

"I was pumped when I found out that Selena Gomez’s longtime makeup artist Hung Vanngo was launching his own beauty brand, and the eyeliner is the best one I’ve tried in a while. I’m especially loving the warm brown shade for a subtle eye look, and the pigment blends out super easily, which I appreciate since I’m not a bold liner person." —JASMINE HYMAN, ASSISTANT BEAUTY EDITOR

"Alright, I’m going to fangirl for a second. This wand—or should I say, cushioned non-slip grip design—is genius! I love how thoughtful this brand is about being inclusive for all by ensuring their packaging is highly ergonomic. But the liner formulation also lives up to the hype. It’s ultra-smooth for confident, non-dragging strokes, and it comes in six wearable colors that look great on a variety of skin tones. Plus, it stays put all day." —JULEE WILSON, BEAUTY EDITOR-AT-LARGE

"Emi Jay makes my favorite hair clips and scrunchies, and they’ve recently ventured into the world of haircare and scents. Their new mist in Toasted Sugar is the best hair perfume I’ve smelled, probably ever. It’s slightly sweet and spicy, with notes of vanilla and amber, and I loved it so much that I even sprayed it on my clothes like a regular fragance." —JH

An Eco-Friendly Shampoo Concentrate

Blu and Green Daily Shampoo Concentrate

Daily Shampoo Concentrate

"Blu and Green founder James Pecis is a legend in the hair industry, having styled basically everyone from Hailey Bieber and Billie Eilish to Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss. He developed his own brand, Blue and Green, around his own principles of clean and sustainable products. When I first tested this shampoo, I was skeptical. I have fine, thin hair and am extremely picky about formulas. Most products are too heavy on my roots, but the products that really cleanse my scalp dry out my ends. But after one use, this shampoo quickly made its way into my favorites and is now in my weekly rotation. It’s a concentrate, so I squeeze a pea-sized dot in my palms and rub it together with some water in the shower. As it starts to lather up, I massage it into my scalp. It leaves my roots feeling clean and de-gunked, but doesn’t make my ends look stringy once I blow dry." —BG

"My hairstylist and friend, Rogerio Cavalcante, just launched Brazil Edition with two excellent products: a leave-in conditioner and a fast-acting hair mask. I've been using them both, and my fine hair is way less dry and brittle and not at all weighed down. The leave-in is one of the best air-dry products I've used—I just smooth a quarter-size amount from roots to tips, brush it through, and my hair dries to a soft, frizz-free finish." —LB

"I am late to the hair wand game, but now that I've tried this, I don't think I can live without it. The wand itself is twice the length of most hair wands, so you can easily smooth down your entire part in like two quick swipes. And the formula isn't sticky or greasy at all, so you don't need to worry about it gunking up your hair." —LB

"As a slick-back ponytail devotee, I am constantly looking for new products to keep my updo as smooth and fly-away-free as possible. This wand from Chris McMillian’s haircare brand has been my go-to for months. The wand itself is extremely sturdy, allowing it to smooth down any bumps in my thick hair easily. It doesn’t leave my hair feeling sticky like a lot of other smoothing gels and sticks, and actually nourishes the hair with hyaluronic acid and jojoba oil as it styles it. Plus, it’s even got heat protection in it.' —JH

"This ultra luxe organic silk bonnet is the definition of beauty sleep. It’s so hard to find nighttime hair protection that will stay on, truly protect my crown, and is actually cute! This bb hits all three! The brand also has some amazing pillowcases, scrunchies, and eye masks, if you’re in the market for a complete nighttime overhaul. But I’ll also note that this particular bonnet I’m shouting out is in a turban style, so if I ever need to wear it during the day, it still looks amazingly chic. I’m telling you, it’s totally worth the splurge." —JW

"OK, RiRi could sell me air at this point and I’m buying it! But I was particularly excited about the launch of the superstar’s new body care collection—especially this super yummy body wash. I’m a vanilla girlie, so the scent was my biggest selling point. But it’s not a cutesy vanilla, it’s way more sophisticated. I also love how it foams up and leaves my skin clean, smooth, and soft. It truly feels like a spa moment instead of a let's-get-this-over-with shower situation. I love that for me! I highly suggest you do the same." —JW

"I can't get enough of this body cream. It's lightweight and fast-absorbing, so you can get dressed seconds after you massage it in without getting stuck to your clothes. And the ingredients' list reads more like a luxury face moisturizer than that of a body product, thanks to two forms of vitamin C, squalane, vitamin E, and oatmeal. I use it in the morning after I get out of the shower, and my arms and legs are smooth and soft all day long." —LB

This Non-Greasy Skin Protectant

Aveeno Skin Relief Healing Ointment

"The time of the year has come during which my neck is consistently covered in eczema. Fun! Most ointments I’ve tried leave my skin so greasy, but this Aveeno formula opts for glycerin over petrolatum as the main source of hydration. And it’s soooo good. It leaves a smooth finish that definitely feels like it’s locking in hydration, but without the usual “slugging” feel." —BG

"Yes, the brand that makes sleeping gummies now makes soothing bodycare. I’m personally obsessed with the Renew Body Serum in the bergamot and jasmine scent—it makes my skin smell so fresh when I apply it after my everything showers. The serum is super lightweight and hydrating, so my skin doesn’t feel greasy and it doesn’t stick to my clothes after (I loathe that icky feeling). It also comes in a body wash version so you can double up on the hydration and gorgeous scent. Even my mom (who hates all fragrances) complimented the way I smelled after I showered and used the serum." —JH

A Next-Level Vitamin C Serum

Trinny London Naked Ambition

Naked Ambition

"Have you ever tried a slow-release vitamin C serum? Well, here’s your chance! This bb is going to give you all the amazing benefits of vitamin C—brightening dull skin, boosting collagen production, and protecting your skin from free radicals. And since it also contains azelaic acid, it’s going to work overtime to even your skin tone and calm redness. I deal with a lot of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and this has been working wonders on my complexion. The radiance it’s been giving me is unwatched!" —JW

"This new cream from one of my favorite SPF brands is the remix I didn’t know I needed. Building off the amazing mineral sunscreen, G.W.S. has added a touch of shimmer to the formulation. The added glow not only makes the zinc-based product blend better, but it makes my skin look like I got 8 hours of sleep (a rare feat these days). I also love that it’s packed with skin-perfecting ingredients like squalene, sea buckthorn oil, peptides, and Niacinamide. I can just put this on my skin and go. It’s that good!" —JW

"I find the taste of pumpkin spice lattes repulsive, but I'm weirdly obsessed with the flavor of this pumpkin pie lip balm. It's the iconic Laneige formula we all know and love, but with a warm, spicy, and ever-so-sweet taste that's peak fall." —LB

"I love the art of the double cleanse, but every aesthetician lately has told me to stop using oil cleansers on my acne-prone skin. While I was in Seoul for work, I tested this new K-beauty innovation, which features both a milky and jelly cleanser, all in one tube. When you squeeze the bottle, it dispenses both types of cleansers that you can mix in your palm. It removes makeup and cleanses my face, eliminating the need for two steps. And it actually works. I totally thought this would be a gimmick, having been burned by so many “two-in-one cleansers” in the past. But this was fantastic while traveling, and now has made its way into my routine at home too." —BG
